The president of Ecuador, Daniel Novoa signed a decree establishing a new state of emergency in several provinces due to the increase in internal violence.
A state of emergency due to “serious internal shock” was declared in the provinces of Guayas, Manabí, Santa Elena, Los Ríos, El Oro, Pichincha, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo and Sucumbíos, as well as in the cantons of La Maná, Las Naves and Echeandía, Sputnik reports.
This measure will be in effect for 60 days, during which the rights to the inviolability of the home and correspondence will be suspended, the text indicates.
The document also specifies that the suspension of the right to inviolability of the home will allow the security forces to carry out immediate searches to detect members of organized armed groups or corresponding structures, as well as to identify, analyze and collect strictly relevant information, when it is essential to prevent or neutralize threats.
Ecuador faces one of the most serious problems of violence in its history, which left more than 8,800 people killed by homicides in 2025.
