Government rehabilitated affected roads in La Guaira to guarantee access to emergency equipment

The Minister of People's Power for Transport, Jacqueline Faria, reported that passability was restored in the state of La Guaira after the earthquakes recorded last June 24, to help ensure the care of all affected people.

He stressed that all roads were enabled without restrictions, allowing access to emergency equipment, supplies and community support.

Regarding bridge infrastructure, Faria specified which structures remain operational and which were severely damaged by earthquakes.

In this regard, he specified that currently, only the Caraballeda 1 and El Osorio bridges are operational, while the Caraballeda 2 is closed and will later be demolished because it could not withstand the two powerful earthquakes.

To mitigate the vehicle impact in the affected areas, the Caraballeda 1 bridge to La Guaira and El Osorio will operate towards Chuspa, and both require repairs that “we are doing at dawn so as not to interrupt the traffic”.

Faria provided an overview of the main interconnection routes with the capital city, bringing peace of mind to users who commute daily along this important road artery.

On the minister's Telegram channel, she added that these actions were instructed by the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.

“We carry out daily checks on the Caracas-La Guaira highway, and it is in perfect working order. We reconditioned the expansion joints,” the publication states.

With regard to the larger structures, Faria assured that viaducts 1, 2 and 3 are already modeled and revised, adding that we put witnesses to evaluate them daily and, in the event of any movement, to have an early warning.

He also reported that the Boquerón 1 and 2 tunnels are in normal operating conditions. The sky of Boquerón 2 was torn by very tall machinery and this morning we are going to evaluate it to remedy it.

The Old Highway had been refurbished beforehand, but the earthquakes caused several sediment landslides that were collected through the company ENVIAL of the Ministry of People's Power for Transport.

At the entrance to the coast from Miranda state, where only rustic vehicles could travel, “we will do recovery work to also provide access to light transport.”

“We took a tour of Puerto Maya and verified that it is in perfect working order (...) La Guaira has all its tickets available to guarantee humanitarian aid,” he said.
