At the headquarters of the Angostura Congress in Bolivar state, the Bolivarian Government began the Burning Chapel in honor of General Domingo Antonio Sifontes before his mortal remains were transferred to the National Pantheon in the city of Caracas. To kick off the event, the civil and military authorities held the first guard of honor and the governor of the state of Bolivar, Ángel Marcano, said he was “proud to honor the memory of this hero of the Fatherland.”
“Today is an historic day for our state and for the country. Today, the journey to take our hero to the National Pantheon began. It was time to receive it in Turmeremo, we left for Callao and now we arrived in Angostura, a city with a great weight in the history of the country,” he said.
In his words, Governor Marcano added that in every corner of the country there are heroes like General Domingo Sifontes. “Our peoples never surrendered (...) Those liberators left us a historic legacy: free lands, to be free, sovereign and independent, and it was our beloved Commander Hugo Chávez, a little more than 20 years ago, who began to vindicate the true history of Venezuela,” he added.
The governor of the state of Bolívar said that “for us it is an honor to have today in this sacred place, where our Liberator gave the wonderful Angostura Speech and was the starting point for Simon Bolivar's army to give freedom to half of the continent, to this hero of the Fatherland who fought against English imperialism who wanted to take possession of Guiana Esequiba and El Callao”.
