Governor Terán: 35 buildings will be demolished in La Guaira under international protocols

The governor of the state of La Guaira, José Alejandro Terán, reported that at least 35 buildings were identified by specialized technical teams to undergo a controlled demolition process, as part of the recovery actions after the double earthquake of last June 24.

Speaking to the media, he explained that the demolitions will be carried out under international protocols advised by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the purpose of ensuring the safety of communities and respect for the rights of affected families.

He said that the first demolition experience, carried out in Playa Grande, culminated in satisfactory results from a technical point of view, so work will continue this week on other structures previously evaluated by specialists.

He also specified that before each intervention, a comprehensive support process is developed that includes psychosocial care, legal advice and information sessions aimed at both the owners and the inhabitants of the immediate environment of the buildings.

“We are aware of the emotional attachment that these homes represent for many families. That is why every decision is being taken in accordance with international protocols, with great care, without haste and seeking citizen consensus,” he said.

The governor also indicated that national and regional organizations participate in this deployment, including the Ministries of People's Power for Health, University Education, Communes and Habitat and Housing, as well as the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic and the State Attorney's Office, institutions responsible for providing legal and social guidance during the process.

Terán assured that the recovery of the affected areas maintains a wide operational deployment with more than 700 heavy machinery distributed in different municipalities of the state.

He explained that to date nearly 400,000 tons of debris have been collected, equivalent to between 18% and 20% of the total estimated volume after the seismic event, estimated at approximately 2.1 million tons.

In this regard, he explained that part of the removed material has been transferred to temporary disposal centers and another part to its final destination, while clearance work continues in the most impacted sectors.

Regarding the third phase of the Venezuela Renace Plan, which addresses urban reconstruction and development, he reported that the Presidential Commission evaluates land located in front of the Maiquetía International Airport for the construction of new urban projects for families who lost their homes.

He noted that the proposals have already been submitted to the Presidential Commission and are part of the urban studies currently being developed with national and international specialists.

Terán said that the recovery process will promote a comprehensive transformation of the state, with improvements in urban planning, infrastructure and public services.
