During the Great March of Social Movements for the Liberation of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, Venezuelans rejected the kidnapping of both leaders, an action carried out by the United States on the orders of Donald Trump.
The participants affirmed that Venezuela is not alone and that several countries have expressed their support for the nation.
“The people do not accept the arrest of the president and the first lady,” said Jesús Soto, community leader of Petare, while stating that “the march shows unity and that the international community is watching closely what happened.”
José Rivas, a worker in the transportation sector, said that “imperial aggression is a response to the hatred that the President of the United States has for the people.” He said that “no country can impose measures that violate Venezuelan sovereignty.”
Ana Pérez, a member of a youth movement, stressed that “several countries have expressed their support for Venezuela.” He said that “this support reinforces the defense of the country's rights.”
Luis Contreras, representative of a social collective, called for “maintaining peaceful mobilization”. He stressed that “peace is the way to face the situation and ask for the release of the president and the first lady.”
The members of the Social Movements reiterated that they will continue to take to the streets in defense of national stability and to repel any action that threatens Venezuelan institutions.
