Members of the Puebla Group repudiated the recent threats and intimidating statements of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, directed against the heads of state of Colombia and Mexico, Gustavo Petro and Claudia Sheinbaum, respectively.
In a statement, the Group noted that Trump's expressions seek to “intimidate” democratically elected governments and “reinstall” a logic of coercion incompatible with peaceful coexistence between sovereign states.
He added that they also occur in a context of extreme gravity, marked by the military aggression of the United States against Venezuela, as well as the deprivation of freedom of its president, Nicolás Maduro, and of the first lady, Cilia Flores.
The Puebla Group affirms that these acts constitute “a serious violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the principle of the prohibition of the use of force”.
