The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Raúl Cazal, together with Deputy Minister Gabriela Simoza, toured communities of Miranda, La Guaira and Caracas to accompany the traditional celebrations of the May Cross, one of the country's most deeply rooted cultural events.

The activities took place in Guatire, Naiguatá and in the Axis of Good Living in Fine Arts, where cultivators and parishioners kept alive this festival that merges the Catholic faith with ancient practices. In addition, this tradition, celebrated every month of May, combines indigenous, African and European elements, and is linked to the beginning of rains and harvests.

In Guatire, the day began with a Eucharist in the parish of Santa Cruz de Pacairigua, where tenths and fullias were performed in honor of the cross adorned with flowers.

During the activity, the minister highlighted the validity of this cultural expression: “It is a sign of the spiritual strength of our people.” At the time, demphasized the importance of people and territory in nation-building. “Here we are making a dignified, sovereign homeland that belongs to us,” he said.

Later, in the Axis of Good Living in Caracas, the authorities shared with cultivators and artisans a program that included gastronomic exhibitions, workshops and a market, highlighting the regional diversity that converges in the capital.

The agenda culminated in Naiguatá, where a tour took place through local traditions that integrate different cultural expressions, closing with the wake of the May Cross accompanied by songs and drums.

During the tour, the head of Culture held exchanges with communities to collect proposals aimed at strengthening and disseminating these manifestations, considered a living heritage of Venezuelan identity.
