Through the social network X, the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, condemned the armed attack carried out by the Central General Staff (EMC) of the extinct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) against an indigenous community in the north of the department of Cauca.
“The armed attack of the EMC del Cauca on unarmed indigenous people at this time is a crime against humanity. It must be judged as such,” wrote the head of state.
The president's response came after the “Iván Mordisco” dissidents (currently in talks with the Government) attacked the indigenous reservation of the Nasa People in the Toribío municipality with gunshots and grenades last Saturday.
In this regard, Petro ordered on Sunday the suspension of the bilateral ceasefire with the EMC in the departments of Cauca, Nariño and Valle del Cauca. On that same day, an indigenous leader died and was injured a day earlier.
