Last Sunday, the Presidential Transitional Council of Haiti announced the creation of the National Security Council, a body responsible for “defining and supervising decisions relating to international security assistance”, as established in resolution 2699 of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
In a statement, the entity stressed that this entity will carry out its mission in close consultation with all political factors in Haiti, as well as with both national and international experts.
The creation of this National Security Council is a step prior to the arrival of the Multilateral Mission to Support Haiti's Security Council, approved by the UN Security Council in October 2023 and led by Kenya, made up of military and police personnel from several countries supposedly committed to the country's stability.
