More than 1,200 people lost their lives in Haiti over the past year after drone attacks against criminal gangs, according to a report published by Human Rights Watch (HRW), in addition to reporting in particular a massacre of children.
The organization explained that the security forces of the provisional government, led by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who took office in February, carried out these attacks with the assumption of restoring public order in the country devastated by poverty and under gang rule.
At least 1,243 people died from explosive drones during 141 operations between March 1, 2025 and January 21, 2026, including at least 43 adults who apparently did not belong to criminal groups and 17 children.
The report notes that the drones were provided by the private company Vectus Global, with special authorization from the U.S. Department of State.
In a statement, the director of HRW's Americas Division demanded that “Haitian authorities urgently monitor security forces and the private providers who work for them, before more children die.”
