Last Monday, security agents of the Prime Minister of Haiti, Garry Colline, confronted armed gangs to cover the president's departure from a hospital in Port-au-Prince.

The Haitian authority had just finished recording an interview at the sanatorium and was meeting with Normil Rameu, head of the National Police, some Kenyan journalists and uniformed personnel, when gunshots were heard outside the building.

Russia Today (RT) detailed that the security team opened fire to protect the prime minister as he left the establishment and was being escorted to his office. According to the official statement, the team “safely left” the medical center and no deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.

Gangs control 80% of Port-au-Prince and are blamed for the death or injury of more than 1,500 people in the first three months of this year alone. According to a United Nations (UN) report released in early July, gang violence in Haiti has displaced more than 300,000 children since March 2024.
