The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS) denounced excavations carried out by Israeli forces in a cemetery located in the eastern part of the Gaza Strip, where numerous graves have been removed during an operation to locate the body of an Israeli prisoner.
The spokesman for HAMAS, Hazem Qasem, stated that these actions reflect behavior that, in his opinion, persists due to the lack of international mechanisms to hold Israel responsible for its actions.
The movement's reaction came after the alert launched by the organization Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (EURO-MED), which pointed out that military intervention in the cemetery constitutes a violation of humanitarian norms and a practice incompatible with international standards.
EURO-MED argued that the explanation provided by Israel does not authorize the alteration of Palestinian graves or the manipulation of mortal remains.
The entity added that any search operation must have clear limits, rigorous controls and independent external oversight, requirements that, according to the organization, were not applied in this intervention, HispanTV reported.
