Head of State announced the launch of the Great Science, Technology and Innovation Mission

During the 40th edition of the program “With Maduro+”, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, announced that this Wednesday, April 10, the new generation of the Great Mission Science, Technology and Innovation was born in Venezuela, which bears the name of the great Venezuelan scientist Dr. Humberto Fernández Morán”.

He said that the launch of the Great Mission takes place in the context of the centenary of the birth of the illustrious Venezuelan scientist, which occurred on February 18.

“Science, society, education, knowledge, everything put at the service of a single objective: a country powers the country of the future, the humanity of the future can only exist on the basis of scientific knowledge of the highest level and the greatest excellence,” he stressed.

In this regard, the Sectorial Vice President of Science, Technology, Education and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, said the Bolivarian Government is ready to launch this Great Mission.

“We are ready for Wednesday, we are ready to do science for life and peace too, science for peace,” he said.

Dr. Humberto Fernández Morán was born on February 18, 1924, in La Cañada de Urdaneta, Zulia state. He was a prominent Venezuelan scientist, the forerunner and founder of the Venezuelan Institute of Neurology and Brain Research (IVNIC), now the IVIC, and inventor of the diamond blade, an instrument capable of making ultra-fine cuts of various kinds.

During his career, he made great scientific contributions to the country with the creation of the diamond blade and in the field of microscopy, with the improvement of the resolution and precision of transmission electron microscopes, adding the ease of freezing samples and creating the concept of electronic cryomicroscopy.
