The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, recognized the work of more than 65,000 scientists who are active throughout the country to provide scientific solutions to chronic, serious or difficult to treat diseases, among other skills.
The Head of State expressed his gratitude to the nations that support this initiative and also expressed his admiration for the perseverance, quality and strength of the Bolivarian Space Activities Agency (ABAE), now in its 18th year of operation.
“Commander Chávez always thought about the use of technology and space science to improve life on the planet, for peace, not to invent wars that destroy the orbit of our planet and that lead to an escalation of the self-destruction of life,” he said.
The president asserted in the 1st. International Space Congress, in the most difficult moments of the Unilateral Coercive Measures that the North American Empire applied to the country, the scientific sector was seriously affected.
“At a time when the economic missiles of sanctions fell, blockades, which completely closed and blocked Venezuela, we lost 99% of our revenues and thousands of the best scientific minds in a country, with a very high tradition in the development of science, technology and innovation, which has had true phenomena of world scientific knowledge,” explained the Venezuelan ruler.
He also added that many of the Venezuelan scientists had to seek opportunities abroad and left the country.
“Many had to seek other opportunities for work and economic survival within Venezuela, always with dignity, however, today's reality is different. The Great Mission of Science, Technology and Innovation, Humberto Fernández Morán, has been articulating, organizing and improving, with professionals of great human and professional quality,” he said.
