The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged the National Assembly (AN) this Monday to open a national debate on the pernicious effect of social networks.

“Now a godfather came out, he was the godfather of the Latin American extreme right, so he will decide with his banknotes and his trillions what the Electoral Power is, what are the official figures, they are ridiculous,” criticized the Head of State regarding the interventionist attempts of the American magnate Elon Musk, owner of platform X, against the presidential elections in Venezuela.

From the National Electoral Council (CNE), when he was proclaimed President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the period 2025-2031, President Maduro stressed that people like Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Meta, “stand up for the cutting-edge technological companies that create the empire. The Pentagon creates technologies and puts them in the hands of private individuals who show their faces,” he said.

In this regard, he urged the Venezuelan Parliament to “open a debate on the pernicious effect of social networks on the collective psyche, on the education of children, on the promotion of anti-values, but anti-pernicious values and on the damage to the country's climate. I ask the National Assembly and the rest of the institutions to open a broad, inclusive national debate so that Venezuela is also at the forefront when it comes to social networks,” he urged.
