The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured that Venezuela has a historic responsibility, “for what we were, the present and the future of our sons, daughters, grandchildren and granddaughters.”

“Either slaves or free people, or colonies or independent people, or fascisms or free people. Let everyone define themselves in this battle,” he said.

This was highlighted in reference to the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Junín, fought on August 6, 1824, a historic event about one of the last clashes between realists and patriots for the independence of Peru. In his speech, he gave a summary of the above-mentioned battle.

In this regard, he stressed that “it is a day of great emotion, of sincere homage from the heart. Let's light a candle for Bolivar and raise our prayers and say to him: Father, we are with you at all times and we know that you are with us.”

He argued that it was a historic battle “between the old colonialisms and the rebel force of freedom that we carry, between those who want to dominate us through threat, deception, lies and force, and we the rebels”.

“We are the talking heads of every hour, of all times and all centuries,” he said at the Miraflores Palace where he received the mobilization of the Grandparents and Grandmothers of the Fatherland in defense of Peace and their re-election to the Presidency of the Republic.
