The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, in an interview conducted by journalist Ignacio Ramonet, assured that the so-called Venezuelan economic miracle is the product of a strategy in which macroeconomic balances were achieved thanks to the national productive effort.
“Here, we, on a permanent basis, are following the economic strategy. The first thing was to establish, in 2016, with great clarity, the real engines for national development. The second thing was to establish the need to build macroeconomic balances typical of a productive effort. And the third thing was to build a development strategy that would allow, in a self-sustainable way, with our own efforts, I always quote Artigas, the great liberator of the Oriental Band of Uruguay, when I say let's not expect anything, but ourselves,” stressed the president.
He added that in the development strategy of each sector of the national economy, major objectives were set out, primarily those aimed at producing food.
“I reengineered the Great AgroVenezuela Mission, created by Commander Chávez, and we reengineered it in debate with the national peasant movement and we took, in practice, actions that allowed us to release the productive forces of the countryside. And Venezuela went from 80% dependence on foreign food products.
He specified that what is fundamental is the development of the countryside, of the land, of food. “We have been recovering the capacity of the Venezuelan industry, which reached up to 8%. Venezuela has an important industry in all sectors, with a good level,” he said.
“Here I have the plan. I'm going to go through all this... I already proposed the 7 Transformations. The first of all, the great economic transformation of Venezuela. Continue to make progress in the development of a strong economy. Note that we have developed a strong domestic market. Right now, we had 81% growth in domestic trade in the last quarter. We are having the lowest inflation in the last 20 years in 2024; we are having in 2024, we have closed with 14 quarters of growth. So it is all right to assume six years, as we are going to assume, of building a self-sustainable, productive economic model that supplies the country, that develops its export vocation and that generates wealth to recover all the social and labor rights of our working class and our people,” he said.
