This Wednesday, April 10, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured that in Venezuela “we have scientifically confirmed that we have 4 centigrade plus, 5 degrees Celsius more continuously since last year”, referring to the global climate crisis.
During the launch in Miranda state, of the Great Science, Technology and Innovation Mission, “Humberto Fernández Morán”, he clarified that “it is not a question of transmitting an extremist or fatalistic message”.
He emphasized that it is “a matter of stating the reality that led us to a world in 150 years, a predatory, polluting industrial capitalist system that reversed the ecological balance that lasted millions of years to create, to evolve”.
In this regard, he urged the Venezuelan scientific community to create mechanisms and instruments to mitigate the consequences of the climate crisis.
“From science and technology, we have to create a way to mitigate and to continue living (...) so that sooner rather than later this situation can be reversed and we can save Planet Earth, we can save life, which is the most beautiful thing (...) science, innovation and technology for life, for health, for agriculture, for producing food, for economic development,” he argued.
He also urged creating their own solutions from Venezuela, based on scientific and technological development “so as not to depend on anyone in the world and to follow their path of recovery, growth, development and expansion of their productive forces.”
