Head of State: Venezuela is a model of popular consultation

During the act of enactment of the Organic Law for the Defense of Guiana Essequiba, the Head of State, Nicolás Maduro, stated that Venezuela is a model of popular consultation on the issues of the Republic and is an expression of direct, participatory and leading democracy.

“It could be the first time in the history of the world, or for the first time in the history of Venezuela I am sure, that a popular consultation of a mandatory, binding nature, such as a referendum, becomes a law of the Republic to form part of the legal structure, of the internal institutional movement of the country, and so it was,” said President Maduro.

The Organic Law for the Defense of Guiana Essequiba consists of 39 articles, six chapters and four transitory provisions will be a reference for the diplomatic life of the Republic.

In this regard, the National President explained that this legal instrument includes “75 years of solid, argued, sustained, just, balanced, legal position at the level of international legality, based on the statute of the creation of the International Court of Justice”.
