The Robinson Mission generated a historic cultural change in Venezuela and a path to knowledge, said the Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez.
During a meeting to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the declaration of Venezuela as a territory free of illiteracy, held at the Casa de las Letras Andrés Bello, in Caracas, Rodríguez ruled that through the Robinson Mission, implemented by President Hugo Chávez in 2003, everyone in Venezuela knows how to read.
“The United Nations declares a country free of illiteracy when the rate is below 4%, meaning that out of every 100 people, four cannot read or write (...) Raise your hand if you know someone in Venezuela who can't read and write. I say this because sometimes they say that this is a lie, do your own survey,” said the head of Education.
On the other hand, according to a press release, Héctor Rodríguez ratified: “Millions of Venezuelans made their way to knowledge, personal and professional development thanks to the Robinson Mission and the entire system of educational missions.”
After the day, the minister wrote on Telegram: “Today we celebrate with deep pride and commitment the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of Venezuela as a territory free of illiteracy. We followed the path that Simón Rodríguez, Bolívar and Chávez traced for us.”
