The vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) for Alliances and the Great Patriotic Pole, Héctor Rodríguez, reported this Thursday that the bases of the Revolution began meetings to choose the presidential candidate.
According to a press release from the governor's office, Rodríguez specified that these meetings will be held throughout the country to hear the proposals of the candidates for president or president
In that regard, he pointed out that in his personal capacity his candidate is Nicolás Maduro,. “I call him the captain of storms (...) Who pulled the ship out of the storm and stayed afloat. He remained loyal to Commander Chávez, who did not lose his humility and who has a courage that no one can deny,” he said.
“The PSUV is going to make its selection and the Great Patriotic Pole is going to make its choice and the social movements are also going to make their proposal,” he highlighted as something new in this election, which will have the contribution of different sectors from all over the country.
Regarding the consensus with the opposition to establish the electoral schedule, he indicated that the Electoral Power guarantees a clean process in which there is the possibility of resolving differences peacefully and democratically.
In this regard, he urged all political sectors of the country to respect the established agreements, “because one of the problems of Venezuelan society is that there are political actors who want to be above the law and the agreements that are signed,” he added.
“Democracy has and must listen to all actors,” he said in relation to the efforts of the national government to promote dialogue with adverse sectors.
