Héctor Rodríguez: Renewal of the 18,000 Community Councils must respect natural leadership

The communal agenda for the renewal of the 18,000 Community Councils whose periods are about to expire has a priority point, that this process must be developed under a central premise: absolute respect for leading democracy, understood as an exercise that belongs to all citizens, emphasized the sectoral vice-president of Social and Territorial Socialism, Héctor Rodríguez.

Through a video posted on his Telegram account, he highlighted that communal councils, communes and Popular Power are pillars of participatory democracy, which is why every renewal process “must respect the natural leadership of each territory, avoid co-optation by parties, mayors or power factors and transparently involve all citizens of the community.”

In that sense, he asked communities to participate without sectarianism, without conditioning and without using public policies to favor or exclude neighbors in organizational processes.

Rodríguez recalled that on October 18, the National Popular Consultation will be held, a mechanism that will allow everyone to agree on the priorities of each community and define where resources will be invested.

“Here, the opportunity is being generated for us to participate in the entire cycle of public policy,” he stressed.
