On April 7, starting at 9:00am, the National Art Gallery (GAN) will inaugurate the exhibition “Historical Continuity — Overlapping Times: New Readings of Venezuelan Art”, to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The exhibition intervenes and communicates directly with the venue's collection and intertwines pieces from different periods to illuminate processes of the past that tend to be invisible under the notions of “avant-garde” or “novelty”, thus rescuing the historical density of our plastic.

This exhibition proposes a critical analysis that breaks with the fiction of a linear story. Instead of presenting movements that are simply “born” or “die”, the GAN reveals an ecosystem of survival where the ancient and the contemporary coexist in constant tension and syncretism.

As part of the celebration of its 50th anniversary, the GAN pays tribute to the largest collection in the country, where the genius of Arturo Michelena and Cristóbal Rojas talks with the light of Armando Reverón and the visions of the 21st century.
