Historic medal! Women's hockey wins bronze at the Central American Games

The Venezuelan field hockey warriors beat Barbados 4-1 to win the bronze medal at the Central American Games in Santo Domingo 2026.

This is the first medal for Venezuela in that discipline and in the women's category in the history of this sporting event.

The match started in favor of the Criollas with full possession of the ball. 11 minutes into the match, they opened the scoring with a goal from Johandri Sánchez, followed by two goals from Mery Rodríguez and María Artigas in the first half, all through the penalty corner.

After the first break, the rivals came out determined to close the gap. The Bermudeñas took over the game, generating dangerous arrivals and scored their only goal of the match thanks to Nakira Downes, with a direct shot at the goal after 11:16 left in the second quarter.

The third quarter turned into a back-and-forth contest with no effectiveness. When the 11:02 minute of the final period passed, the national team sentenced the commitment by scoring the fourth goal of the day, through Patricia Mujica, once again with an impeccable execution of a short corner.

Venezuela maintained an impenetrable defense in the fourth quarter to prevent another Barbadian goal and close the crossing.
