This Tuesday, August 26, the Historical Compact Political Movement rejected the military and naval deployment by the United States in the Caribbean.

In a statement, he spoke out publicly. Below is the statement in full:

From the Historical Pact Political Movement we raise our voice to say: STOP NAVAL MILITARY DEPLOYMENT IN THE CARIBBEAN!

The deployment of U.S. military and naval forces off the coast of Venezuela, under the pretext of counternarcotic operations, constitutes a serious threat of aggression against Latin America and the Caribbean. Its true purposes are known: the illegal retention of the leaders of a sovereign nation through methods that openly violate international law.

In reality, it is a unilateral transgression aimed at normalizing illegal and immoral intervention in the institutional life of the Venezuelan State. The current U.S. administration seriously distorts international relations in a region that resists continuing to be treated as a backyard, in a clear and dangerous attempt to reimpose the outdated Monroe Doctrine.

Recent history warns us about the devastating consequences of these military adventures. The invasions of Iraq, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan did not solve the problems they claimed to combat, but left chaos, destruction, endless humanitarian crises and fragmented societies. Latin America is not willing to suffer that same fate.

Our continent will not be the next chapter of this failed imperialist manual.
The world has changed. International relations cannot continue to be governed by the logic of domination and submission. This new historical moment requires respect for the diversity of political projects and for the sovereignty of peoples. The time of imperialism is over. The international community must act on the principles of international law, non-intervention and the self-determination of peoples.

For this reason, we make an urgent call for solidarity and unity across Latin America and the Caribbean. Beyond the legitimate ideological differences between governments, there is a sacred principle that must unite us: the defense of sovereignty and the right of each people to decide their destiny without coercion or external threats.

The Historical Pact Political Movement expresses its strongest rejection of these practices contrary to international law. The political and institutional organization of Venezuela corresponds only to its people, without interference or pressure from foreign powers.

Consequently, we demand the immediate withdrawal of all deployment and armed pressure in the Caribbean and against Venezuela. We ratify our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirm our support for the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace (Havana, 2014), a historic commitment that we must defend today more than ever.
The peace and sovereignty of our peoples are not negotiable!
