Homeland is America! XVII National Congress of History opened in Miranda

The XVII National Congress and IV International History Congress was inaugurated by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, this Wednesday at the facilities of the Papá Carrillo gymnasium, Sucre municipality in the state of Miranda.

“An honor to have installed, in the name of President Nicolás Maduro, the deliberations of the XVII National Congress and IV International History Congress, meeting in its opening session at the facilities of the Papá Carrillo gymnasium, in the Sucre municipality of Miranda state,” Villegas wrote on the social network X.

He also stated the importance of the activity taking place in the facilities of the Papa Carrillo gymnasium. “History is making history. I don't know where else in the world a Congress is held in a gym. We are setting a high bar,” he said.

According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the event will run until June 23 under the slogan Homeland is America, and seeks to vindicate Latin American and Caribbean identity in the independence quest of peoples.

This edition of the congress has 13 thematic axes, including: The work and legacy of Francisco de Miranda; the thought and doctrine of Bolivar in Chávez; the Bicentennial of Independence in Our America; geopolitics in the 21st century; collective memories about insurgencies, resistances and counterinsurgencies in Venezuela, Our America and the Caribbean.

Other topics are also analyzed, such as the perspectives and realities of cultural heritage, the challenges of historical pedagogy, women's history, sociology, the political situation in Latin America; as well as politics, nation and power.

In addition, the meeting includes the participation of national and international researchers, teachers and specialists from Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Cuba, Mexico, the United States and Europe, among other invited countries.
