The President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, condemned this Saturday, January 3rd, the military aggression of the United States against Venezuela and the kidnapping of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, considering that these acts constitute an affront to the sovereignty and independence of the Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Castro described the events as barbaric and warned of the risks of allowing “the return of imperial colonialism” in the region.

In a statement released on her account of the social network X, the Honduran president stated that military action represents “absolute ignorance, and a moral defeat of the Charter of the United Nations and of international law.”

He expressed his country's solidarity with the Venezuelan people, with President Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

He also linked the situation in Venezuela to the experience of his country, pointing out that Honduras has been the victim of direct interference and intervention by the US president, Donald Trump.

In that regard, he recalled that during the recent Honduran electoral process, President Trump threatened the people of Honduras because of his intention to vote for the official candidate, Rixi Moncada.

He stressed that in the recent elections in Honduras, President Trump accompanied “enormous electoral fraud”, which “puts our already fragile Honduran democracy at risk.”
