Honduras assumes pro tempore presidency of CELAC

Castro urged CELAC member countries to ratify their commitment for the good of Latin American and Caribbean peoples

This Friday, the President of the Republic of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, assumed the pro tempore presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

In addition, it is the highest pro tempore authority of the Central American Integration System (SICA). In this regard, the Honduran president asserted that her work will be honored and her commitment to preserve peace in the region.

“I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to peace. This 2024 marks the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, ratified at the second CELAC summit held in Havana, Cuba,” he said.

He urged the member countries of CELAC to ratify their commitment for the good of Latin American and Caribbean peoples, according to a note from the Ministry of People's Power for Communion and Information (MPPPCI).

It should be noted that the pro tempore presidency will last until 2025.
