The permanent mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva strongly condemned the allegation against international sanctions imposed on Venezuela, and stated that this “external pressure” constitutes a “serious threat to human rights” in the country.
The declaration, issued during the 60th session of the Human Rights Council, reinforces a historic position of the Russian Federation in the face of the imposition of unilateral coercive measures promoted by the United States (USA) and to which dozens of Western countries adhere.
“A serious threat to human rights in the country is external pressure in the form of illegitimate unilateral coercive measures. More than 1 thousand different restrictions have already been imposed against Caracas, which have a direct humanitarian projection,” said the Russian representative.
In a statement during a dialogue with the International Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela, Moscow also emphasized its opposition to what it described as “the politicization of labor” of the Human Rights Council.
