This Monday, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, demanded arrest warrants against the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu; the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant.
Khan extended the request to Yahya Sinwar, head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip; Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, commander-in-chief of Hamas' military wing, known as the Al Qassam Brigades; and Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas' political bureau.
According to the court, all individuals “are criminally responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the territory of Israel and the State of Palestine.”
“Today, we stress once again that international law and the laws of armed conflict apply to everyone. No private soldier, no commander, no civilian leader can act with impunity. Nothing can justify deliberately depriving human beings, including so many women and children, of the basic needs that life requires. Nothing can justify hostage-taking or attacks on civilians,” said the prosecutor.
