The Institute for the Conservation of the Lake Maracaibo Basin (ICLAM) began the days of collecting water samples in the resorts of the states of Zulia, Mérida and Trujillo to determine which of the beaches will be suitable for the 2026 Carnival season.
According to a report from the institution, the analyses include site parameters such as pH, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and bacteriological analyses to determine fecal and total coliform concentrations .
These indicators will determine if spas meet the specifications of the Organic Environmental Law, especially Decree 883 of Chapter 2, on the classification of waters, which refers to waters intended for spas, water sports, sport, commercial and livelihood fishing.
The sampling began in the Insular Padilla municipality, specifically the islands of Toas (resorts of La Almeja and Cachito), San Carlos and Providencia and on the beaches of the municipality of Santa Rita.
