On May 13, 2012, former Venezuelan Formula 1 (F1) driver, Pastor Maldonado, won the Spanish Grand Prix.
With this historic victory, Maldonado became the first Venezuelan to win this award in F1, and in the race he won against the favorite and local racer Fernando Alonso.
It is worth noting that with this triumph the Venezuelan team returned the Williams team to the podium, since, by then, he had not won an award for eight years.
