This Tuesday, India invoked the Essential Commodities Act (ECA) to guarantee the supply of domestic gas to its 1.4 billion inhabitants, following interruptions due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Restaurants and hotels warned of menu changes, interruptions and even possible closures, due to potential storage problems, which only cover two or three days of inventory.

According to information detailed by the Economic Times newspaper, the federal government instructed refineries and petrochemical units to increase the production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and to divert key hydrocarbon streams to the LPG pool, while oil refiners were ordered to absorb the impact of the interruption of the supply of LNG to the best of their ability.

Fuel priority will be given to homes and cars; in second place are fertilizer plants, which will receive 70% of their current gas consumption, and in third place are the tea industries, manufacturing and other industrial consumers, whose supply will be maintained at 80% of current consumption.
