The Permanent Commission on
Indigenous Peoples will operate in accordance with Plan 7T for the recovery of Venezuela
announced by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, on January 15
during his annual message to the nation.
The president of the commission, deputy Nicia Maldonado (PSUV/National), stressed
that the body has a commitment to indigenous peoples and the
entire country to continue developing proposals where the participation of
indigenous people is essential for the defense of sovereignty, the conservation of the
environment, the preservation and appropriate use of the resources of Venezuelans.
Maldonado urged parliamentarians to be united and guarantee the
triumph of each of the works carried out by the indigenous people.
“Always, in battles such as those of the Essequibo, it is necessary for
native peoples to be at the forefront, in the defense of the law, as well as in all the
work that has been achieved as indigenous legislators for our peoples,” he said.
In the same way, the deputy reiterated
that we must be alert to the presence of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in original territories, establish the links of
cooperation and economic, political, social and cultural integration between the
Parliament and the indigenous governing body, the Ministry of Popular Power for Indigenous
Peoples (MINPI), to guarantee the protection of ancestral fundamental rights.
Maldonado announced that the first vice-president Francisco
Martínez (PSUV/Delta Amacuro) has been ratified, in the second vice-presidency the deputy Nixon
Maniglia (AD/Amazonas) and the professional administrator Arlenes González has been appointed as secretary, to accompany them in this legislative period 2024 - 2025.
