The first vice-president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante, announced that Venezuela will submit an appeal to international organizations to request the release of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady, Cilia Flores, arrested by the United States as part of the military action registered on January 3.
During the Great March for Freedom, held in Caracas, Infante said: “Today we demand and will continue to demand before all instances that they return President Maduro and his wife to us.”
The parliamentarian stressed that citizens expressed in the streets their commitment to independence and peace, and stressed the need to maintain national unity and institutional functioning while calling for the return of the head of state.
Infante expressed his support for the president in charge, Delcy Rodríguez, the Minister of Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, and the President of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, whom he thanked for leading the country in the current situation.
The leader reiterated that young people will continue to mobilize in defense of sovereignty and self-determination and assured that the population will persist in calling for the release of Maduro and Flores. He added that, despite sanctions and attacks, Venezuela will continue to bet on dialogue and sovereignty, paying tribute to the martyrs who fell during the US aggression.
