INPARQUES reaffirms that pets are prohibited from entering Francisco de Miranda Park

The Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC), through the National Park Institute (INPARQUES) and the Wildlife Coordination of the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Park, reaffirmed biosecurity policies that prohibit pets such as dogs and cats from entering these facilities.

The measure responds to a bidirectional risk of transmission of zoonotic diseases: domestic animals can infect the park's zoological collection —which includes captive and semi-captive species such as sloths, squirrels and various birds—and, in turn, could be affected by viruses or bacteria present in wildlife, according to a MINEC press release

In addition, the zoological collection may suffer from stress due to barking and the presence of pets in the park's animals, altering their behavior and well-being.

The wildlife coordinator of the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Park, Miguel Nieves, stressed that this policy seeks to protect the integrity of both the park's zoological collection and the visitors' domestic animals, establishing a clear protocol of mutual protection that strengthens the ecosocialist management of space.
