The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) warned that the entire Gaza Strip could face famine until mid-April 2026 if hostilities resume or humanitarian deliveries stop.

The agency has highlighted that, although the famine has not spread, the situation remains critical for the entire population. Experts backed by the United Nations have indicated that access to food has improved after the ceasefire, but that last month around 100,000 people were still living in conditions described as “catastrophic”.

The IPC recalled that, in August, around half a million inhabitants — a quarter of the population — lived in areas directly affected by hunger.

The flow of humanitarian aid has increased since October, but it only covers the bare minimum necessary for survival. The report highlights that stability depends on a constant flow of supplies and continuous commercial access.

Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner general of the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA), called for massive supplies to be allowed to enter and ensure that humanitarian personnel can operate without restrictions.
