This
Thursday, February 06, the Venezuelan International
Book Fair (FILVEN) opened for the first time in Yaritagua, Yaracuy state, in the spaces of the Mayor's Office of the Peña Municipality, in front of
Plaza Bolívar.
The opening
event was accompanied by the Single Cultural Authority in
Yaracuy, Betty González, and the general director of the Mayor's Office of the
Peña municipality, Milena Hernández, together with the honored regional writers Belky Montilla and Neri Carvallo.
González
celebrated the initiative of the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture and the National Book
Center to transfer FILVEN throughout Venezuela, not only to
state capitals, but also to communities within, “for a
vision that culture must reach every city, every community.”
In that
sense, he extended the invitation to the people to come and enjoy the
regional edition of this book festival in which they will see poetic recitals, book
presentations and meetings with writers.
“We are celebrating this festival of words
and literature. There are a good number of books, affordable, of good quality
and extraordinary content, so that we can enjoy the word, the
literature, the history. There are a wide variety of titles and there are no excuses not
to read,” he said.
For her
part, the general director of the Mayor's Office of the Peña municipality, Milena
Hernández, recalled that this fair is the product of the policies promoted by
Commander Hugo Chávez, who continue with the government of President Nicolás Maduro to bring books to every corner of the country.
“FILVEN
is nothing more than a party for those of us who love to read, want to grow, for
those of us who have said and understood that only through reading
can we grow as people. From the Mayor's Office of the Peña Municipality we want
to express our words of thanks to each one of you, our own and
strangers, countrymen, who are joining us today in this wonderful event,” he said.
The FILVEN Yaracuy will be open until February 8 with an extensive exhibition of
books from different literary genres, including poetry, novels and short stories.
News about The Dog and the Frog, Monte Ávila and the Ayacucho Library can be found through Librería del Sur, as well as the Simon Bolivar Study Center and the Venezuelan Anti-Blocking Observatory, among other labels and publishing funds, booksellers and institutions.
