Venezuelan pitcher Martín Pérez is still untouchable and threw six more innings without allowing runs, to be one of the factors in the Atlanta Braves' 4-0 win against the New York Mets.

Martín Pérez extended his immaculate streak to 18.0 innings, the second longest in his career and the third longest active streak among major league starters, second only to Drew Rasmussen, from Tampa Bay, and Sandy Alcántara, from Miami, both with 20.0 stages, according to Baseball-Reference.

Martín Pérez, 35, began his streak on July 27 with his last two blank innings of his five-year run. He then threw away a jewel of seven scoreless runs on August 1 and followed up with three more on August 6, in a game delayed by rain for almost two hours, as a preamble to his performance on Tuesday, according to the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) press report.

His personal record was set in 2014, barely in his third season in the majors, after making his debut in 2012 with the Texas Rangers. In that campaign, he spun 26.2 entries into zero, between April 13 and 29, including one after the other whitewash.

The left-hander arrived at Spring Training as an off-roster guest and, after making the team, was appointed for assignment in April, but returned in May, after a new agreement. Since then he has remained in the Atlanta rotation, which marches first in the East of the National League.

Martín Pérez isolated four hits and three walks, while striking out two. He needed 82 pitches to complete his job, 49 of them on strike. He relied on his sinker and the change, with which he achieved seven failed swings, according to Statcast. In his last two outings, his percentage of swings without contact from his rivals is 31%, which contrasts with what he had done up to that moment (17%).

The Venezuelan improved his record to 8-6 and his effectiveness in the campaign has dropped from 3.49 to 2.96 during his streak.
