The Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC) held the workshop entitled Raising Awareness on the Prevention and Control of Illicit Trafficking in Cultural Property, to combat this crime in cooperation with the Management of the Main Air Customs of Maiquetia, which promotes the actions of the Venezuelan Technical Committee.
The event took place at the facilities of the National Integrated Customs and Tax Administration Service (SENIAT) in the state of La Guaira.
The day was aimed at strengthening the protection of Venezuelan cultural heritage and promoting greater awareness of the prevention of illegal trafficking. The symposium was attended by SENIAT air and maritime customs personnel, who are fundamental actors in the processes of controlling the entry and exit of cultural assets in the country.
The training was led by the specialist in cultural heritage, Alesia Martínez, and the museologist with extensive experience in customs matters, Joselin Blanco, who addressed fundamental issues such as the current legal framework, the essential protocols for the identification and proper management of cultural assets, as well as preventive strategies and the importance of inter-institutional cooperation to combat this crime.
The initiative was supported and accompanied by the Directorate for the Registration of Venezuelan Cultural Heritage and the Office of Public Affairs and Information, the latter responsible for covering and disseminating this activity. With the holding of this workshop, the IPC is once again working to safeguard Venezuelan cultural riches, and establishes strategic alliances with key institutions and entities to strengthen mechanisms for the detection, reporting and control of illegal traffic.
