The representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations (UN), Amir Saeid Iravani, pointed out that the attacks of the United States on Venezuela constitute a serious violation of international rights.
“This illegal conduct undermines the very foundations of the global order and, in addition, is a dangerous precedent. The United States is emboldened and poses a serious threat to regional security. He has even publicly threatened to attack the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.
In this regard, he asked the United Nations Security Council to take immediate action on the illegality of the acts committed by U.S. imperialism in the attack on Venezuelan territory and the kidnapping of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady, Cilia Flores.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns in the strongest terms the military attack of the United States of America against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. “This illegal act involves State terrorism, a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter in its articles 2, 4 and 7 and of the rules that require international compliance,” he said.
“This represents a serious violation of the Homeland and regional security with extensive consequences of the international system, the kidnapping of the democratically elected president and the first lady by the United States is a flagrant violation of the law,” he stressed.
He also mentioned that “the principles of the inviolability of Heads of State and Government under international law are included, it also represents a serious attack on respect for the sovereignty of States”.
“Venezuela has the right to self-defense. We urge this organization to take immediate action and to hold those responsible to account. We also reaffirm our support for the People of Venezuela and for the legitimate Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” he said.
He also stressed that the President of the United States “sheds crocodile tears before the Iranian people and affirms with great hypocrisy that he supports them while he has a documented history of intervening by force.”
