Iran: President Ebrahim Raisi's funeral begins

On Tuesday, the funeral of President Ebrahim Raisí and his companions began in the Islamic Republic of Iran, who died on Sunday after the helicopter they were traveling in near the border with Azerbaijan crashed.

Thousands of citizens gathered at 09:30 (local time) in the city of Tabriz, Iran to escort the body of President Ebrahim Raisí, Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdolahian and the rest of the occupants of the crashed helicopter from Martyrs Square to the Mosalah mosque.

This Tuesday, the body of the Iranian president will be transferred to the city of Qom, south of Tehran, and from there it will be taken to the capital.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will preside over prayers at a farewell ceremony scheduled in the city of Tehran this Tuesday evening, before the large processions due to begin in the capital on Wednesday.
