This Wednesday, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, expressed concern about recent events in Latin America and the Caribbean due to the hostile and provocative actions of the United States (USA) against Venezuela.
During a meeting of the UN Conference on Disarmament held, Bahreini said that “With the deployment of its war fleet and nuclear submarines in the Caribbean region, the United States openly threatens the political independence and territorial integrity of Venezuela.”
He also added that the US measures as a “flagrant violation” of the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter, including the principles of peaceful settlement of disputes and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
He also added that the threat of a non-nuclear State member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) through the deployment of a nuclear submarine by a permanent member of the Security Council constitutes a serious threat to peace, international and regional security, as well as “a fundamental blow to the disarmament and non-proliferation regime.”
