The Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) will incorporate more than 24 postgraduate programs, including fields such as nanotechnology and biotechnology, said the director of this institution, Alberto Quintero.

In an interview with the Al Aire program, which broadcasts Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), he reported that on December 19, three new postgraduate programs were approved. “The IVIC is projected to be an institute that trains a lot of people and that will train even more; not only because it is linked to the National University of Sciences,” Quintero predicted.

Regarding the recent attack that the United States perpetrated against Venezuelan territory, which also affected the facilities of the IVIC, Quintero stated that “we don't stop, and this will not paralyze us either”. In the same way, the director

of the IVIC recalled that the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, facilitated the inauguration of the Animal Genetics and Reproduction Laboratory; which is intended to improve the genetic profiles of Venezuelan cattle, and counteract the harmful effects of inbreeding.

On the other hand, it counted seven new centers founded during the last four years, two of which are located in Zulia and Mérida, and which includes the Center for Tropical Agriculture located in the Andean state. This complex shares phytosanitary procedures with local producers to improve crops.

“This is an example of how science can reach producers; they learn how to propagate seeds, how to preserve them,” Quintero explained, in addition to communicating the spread of potato seeds to more than 20 states in the national territory, together with the presence of networks of coffee, cocoa and musaceae scientists.
