The Institute for Development and Peace Studies (INDEPAZ) reported that community leader Jackson Romaña Cuesta was killed by armed men while at his home in Quibdó, capital of the Colombian department of Chocó.

According to information published by INDEPAZ, Romagna was a recognized leader, volunteer of the Chocó Civil Defense Committee and a promoter of sports in the region.

Romagna was prepared to support the delivery of humanitarian aid due to the emergencies presented by the heavy rains that hit the region.

INDEPAZ also reported that so far in 2024, 20 leaders and Human Rights Defenders have been assassinated in Colombia.
