Japan evacuates 5,000 people in Kagoshima due to Typhoon Dolphin

Japan ordered the evacuation of more than five thousand people in Kagoshima prefecture due to the advance of Typhoon Dolphin, which has already caused the massive cancellation of flights in the south of the country while heading to the East China Sea.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the phenomenon records sustained winds of up to 216 kilometers per hour and described it as an extensive and high-intensity system. In addition, the authorities asked the population to take extreme precautions because rains and gusts of wind are expected to persist throughout the weekend.

Major airlines suspended all operations to or from Okinawa prefecture. As of Sunday, there have been more than 600 canceled flights, most of them operated by Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, affecting the movement of approximately 86,400 passengers.

According to the forecast, Dolphin will cross the Ryukyu archipelago, the southernmost in the country, this Friday before entering the East China Sea. From there, it will gradually approach the east coast of China, where preventive evacuations have already been activated.
