The president of the Special Commission for the Follow-up of the Amnesty Law, Deputy Jorge Arreaza, this Friday, February 20, stressed that actors with divergent thoughts will be placed on the same path of peace and national union as well as in understanding the political moment that the Bolivarian nation is going through.

This was stated in the context of the unanimous approval of the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, by the National Assembly (AN).

However, Arreaza stressed that, in accordance with the provisions of article 9 of the aforementioned Law, those who supported and requested invasions against Venezuela, as well as those who took up arms or asked for armed action against the nation, cannot be amnestied by this legal instrument.

In an interview with the program A Pulso, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, he emphasized that the fact that the 16 articles of the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence have been approved expresses a great political will on the part of the national leadership to build conditions for peace, encounter and understanding.

He assured that in the context of the Amnesty Law, the criminal case is extinguished, reaffirming its nature as a legal instrument aimed at national reconciliation, while clarifying that this extinction does not imply forgetting the facts, since actions are recorded in the history, memory and feelings of the Venezuelan people.

Another point, addressed by the deputy, is that people who are under the condition of asylum in other countries, if they have an ongoing criminal case in Venezuela and take advantage of the Amnesty Law within the facts contemplated in article 8, will be amnestied.

He said that, in cases where such persons have told other States that they were being politically persecuted, it is up to those countries to evaluate the situation, since it is a matter between them and the receiving State, and not an aspect that directly involves Venezuela.

He also pointed out that, as established in article 16 of the Act, the crime committed is extinct, and clarified that if the person commits a crime again, he will have to answer to justice.

He argued that the Bolivarian Revolution, at this transcendent and delicate political moment, trusts that amnesty will be an opportunity for all to forgive and receive forgiveness, as a way to move forward together in the defense of the Homeland.

Almost at the end of the space, Arreaza received information in real time about the first releases resulting from the application of the Amnesty Law.
