Venezuelan Jorge Arreaza was appointed as the new Executive
Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our
America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), replacing his
compatriot Félix Plasencia, who had been in office since December 2022.
The information was released by the regional block in a statement, in which they state that the new secretary “has been charged with
carrying out an ambitious work plan, the Strategic Agenda 2030 of
ALBA-TCP, aimed at giving extraordinary impetus to the process of comprehensive
consolidation of the Alliance in the years to come”.
They state that Arreaza “will have the responsibility of coordinating the
actions of member States to revitalize the region's
cooperation architecture, the promotion of commercial exchange; the expansion
of air and maritime connectivity; the expansion of the ALBA Bank, in
terms of members, assets and credit capacity, the revival of
Petrocaribe and the convergence with other regional cooperation mechanisms”.
The new Secretary General of ALBA-TCP has held positions
of high responsibility within the Bolivarian Government, including the Executive
Vice Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
