The coordinator of the Secretariat of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace and president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stressed this Thursday that the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean have lost their ingenuity after decades of aggression by United States (US) imperialism against the region.

During his participation in the Meeting of Jurists in Defense of International Law, which is held in Caracas on November 13 and 14, the parliamentarian evoked the writing of the Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío addressed to former US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in which he expresses his indignation “caused by the aggression against what at that time he called Hispanic America by the United States”.

“And we all remember, from those of our time, the first letters that Rubén Darío says to the United States: 'You are the United States, you are the future invader of naive America who still prays to Jesus Christ, who still speaks in Spanish and who still has indigenous blood, '” Rodríguez quoted.

In this regard, he stated that “we are the America who are proud of our indigenous blood, who speak in Spanish, also in French, and in other languages, especially in our Caribbean area. We still pray to our gods. We have lost only one thing since Rubén Darío wrote this poem. After decades of invasions, military aggressions, coups d'etat, dictatorships, we have fortunately lost our ingenuity,” he emphasized.
