Jorge Rodríguez presents legislative plan for the elaboration of 8 codes for the legal system

The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, notified the Executive this Wednesday of the formal installation of the legislative period 2026-2031. During the event, he announced a comprehensive reform of the Venezuelan legal system, which includes the creation of eight large specialized codes to simplify the country's legal system.

“Our concrete proposal is that the laws that exist in the Republic can be ordered through the approval of 8 major codes that contain all the elements of Venezuelan laws and that way there can be order in that regard,” Rodríguez said during the notification ceremony to the President in charge, Delcy Rodríguez Gómez.

The head of Parliament proposed that existing laws be grouped into modern instruments focusing on six central axes: peace, economic growth, Popular Power, new economic modalities (enterprises), the defense of the life and security of Venezuelans.

The specific proposal of the National Assembly includes the approval of the following instruments:

Renewed Popular Criminal Code and Civil Code.

Venezuelan Social Code, to group guarantees and protection programs.

Economic and Productive Trade Code, adapted to the “new reality of the economy”.

Electoral Code, which will unify all laws on the subject.

Code of Direct Democracy, Environmental Ecological Code and a Code of Comprehensive Protection for vulnerable people.

The Notification Commission that attended the meeting also included deputies from the Homeland Bloc, such as Tania Díaz and Nicolás Maduro Guerra, as well as representatives of opposition parties, including Timoteo Zambrano, José Bernabé Gutiérrez, José Brito, Antonio Ecarri and Stalin González.

Rodríguez stressed that, although the period 2021-2025 approved 100 laws, the new cycle will seek greater legislative efficiency for the “consolidation of peace and economic growth” of the Republic.
